Assam Arogya Nidhi is a yearly Financial Assistance Scheme provided as reimbursement to members of families whose yearly income is less than Rs. 5 lakhs for treatment of serious diseases including accident cases.

Permanent residents of Assam with a family income below Rs. 5 lakh are eligible for the scheme. There is no age limit. However, government employees, their family and pensioners are excluded. Treatment must be undertaken in registered government or reputed private hospitals, either within Assam or elsewhere in India.

To apply, download the application form from the National Health Mission Assam website at www.nhm.assam.gov.in. Attach all required documents and submit the completed application along with the documents to the Principals/Superintendents of the referred Medical College and Hospitals or send it to the Office of the Mission Director, National Health Mission, Guwahati.

Photograph of the Patient attested by any doctor, attested photocopy of Income Certificate by Revenue Circle Officer, attested photocopy of Identify & Address Proof (Voter ID, ADHAAR CARD, Driving license), original bills, vouchers, receipts etc. Also, photocopy of prescriptions, discharge summary. Moreover, attested photocopy of first page of the Bank Pass Book and Pradhan Mantri Jana Arogyua Yojana (PMJAY)/Atal Amrit Abhiyan (AAA) Cards.

The applications must be submitted to the Principals/Superintendents of the Medical College & Hospitals who will refer such cases to the MD, NHM for grant of the financial assistance and the same will be decided immediately so that the patients get the financial support before he/she is released from the hospitals.

An Expert Committee comprising of specialist doctors of Gauhati Medical College verifies the applications and recommends the eligible cases. As per the committee’s recommendations, financial assistance is provided to eligible beneficiaries preferably through Direct Bank Transfer.

Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) was started in the year 2010.

The Assam Arogya Nidhi scheme is applicable only in cases where poor patients require financial assistance during hospitalization, individuals in literature, arts, and sports who do not have social security coverage, and rare cases that are duly recommended by people’s representatives.

Families with annual income up to Rs.5.00 Lakh will be covered under the scheme.

There are no age limits for coverage under the scheme.

Financial assistance under Arogya Nidhi can be availed to a maximum limit of up to Rs. 3 Lakhs.

Financial assistance is available for treatment at all government hospitals, including Medical Colleges and Tertiary Health Care facilities, hospitals registered under the Clinical Establishment Act, 2010 and Empaneled hospitals under Assam Medical Attendance Rules, 2008. Also, hospitals covered under PMJAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana)/MMJAY (Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) Schemes are counted.

The Chairman, Executive Committee, State Health Society can approve cases for financial assistance, if deemed eligible for amounts up to Rs. 3Lakhs. Proposals requiring financial assistance beyond Rs. 3Lakhs require approval from the Governing Body.

Financial assistance shall be disbursed to the beneficiary concerned or reimbursed to the hospital concerned through bank account transfer/Cheque/DD etc. Advance payment shall only be made to the hospital concerned subject to a maximum of Rs. 3Lakhs.

No, as per the revised guidelines, Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) will not accept applications through any portal, Office of the Joint Director of Health Services of the Districts, or any other sources. The application should be submitted to the Principals/Superintendents of Medical Colleges & Hospitals by the applicants. The hospital authorities will then forward eligible cases to the Mission Director, NHM, for immediate approval.

A State-level Governing Body oversees the scheme, including the Honorable Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Assam (Chairperson) and other senior officials.

Applications are vetted by the Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent/Superintendent of GMCH before approval.

40 percent of the leftover amount under AAA and PMJAY (after hospital expenditure) is contributed to AAN regularly. 10 percent of PMJAY claims from Government Hospitals (Medical Colleges, District Hospitals) will be transferred directly to the AAN account.

​The Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) is a healthcare initiative launched by the Health & Family Welfare Department of the Government of Assam. It aims to provide financial assistance to families with an annual income of less than ₹5 lakh for the treatment of life-threatening diseases and injuries resulting from natural or man-made disasters.
